Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) unveils three world premiere

Mitsubishi's product lineup remains somewhat quiet, but the company clearly has big plans for the future. Mitsu's readying a sizeable display for the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show, with three all-new concept vehicles that show the brand's future direction.

That direction would appear to be crossovers and SUVs, based on the teasers Mitsubishi has released. The first concept, the GC-PHEV is a full-size plug-in hybrid SUV. The name stands for Grand Cruiser, and it could be a successor to the departed Montero, featuring Mitsubishi's S-AWC all-wheel drive and high-tech wireless connectivity. The smaller Concept XR-PHEV is a lightweight SUV with more nimble handling and styling similar to a sport coupe. The third debutante is the Concept AR (Active Runabout) which combines the passenger-carrying capability of a minivan with the versatility of an SUV. The Concept AR is powered by a small direct-injection turbodiesel, and sports a versatile interior layout.

We'll have more on these vehicles when they're unveiled in Tokyo in November.
